Inspiration from the waitress

If you have never met Kinley let me let you in on a little secret....SHE IS PERSISTENT!!! She can get in trouble for something and I can spat her hand or bottom and she will do it 5 more times at least, literally! When she is tired or hungry, so basically 22 hrs. out of the day, she bites me! I have spanked her a million times for it and we are now trying "time out." I have no clue if a 1 yr. old has any understanding of the concept of time out! When she wants something or is just in a bad mood she will scream, but she can turn it off in an instant! It's like a light switch....scream...happy...scream....happy! So there's your background on my sweet girl. Tonight Matt and I went out to eat. Kinley fell asleep in the car on the way there and I thought oh great she is going to be terrible in Cracker Barrel. So, I went in and they said it would be 15 to 20 mins. I walked back out to the car, very careful to open and close the door softly because Kinley was still asleep in the back seat. Matt and I sat there almost silent for about 10 mins. then got her and went and sat on the rocking chairs outside waiting to hear our name to be called. 35 minutes later and I went and ask the lady if they called our name and she said "oh yeah a LONG time ago, but you probably thought I said Mike party of 3." WHAT???? I just said yeah I guess, so we finally get seated and Kinley gets the honor of sitting my me. She is tired (imagine that) so here starts the biting...but she sinks her teeth into the kids menu and the TABLE! I just let her! After we got food she was eating and things were going pretty good. As we were leaving she starts the screaming thing. Our waitress stops me on the way out and says, "strong willed children are a blessing later on. I know you don't think it now but you will be so glad she is that way later on." Then another waitress chimes in and says, "yes, but I'm sure right now you don't think her will is such a blessing." I guess just from the hour in this busy restaurant the poor waitress had pity on us. Is it that obvious that I'm thinking, "how do I get this kid to stop"? I was thankful for her advice, but a little embarrassed at the same time that she noticed how Kinley acts. I think I will go buy a book on strong willed kids! I don't know if they make them for 1 year olds or not, but hey it's worth a try! I guess my lesson learned tonight was: Enjoy Kinley's strong will because it will pay off when she has to make important decisions later on.

Happy First Valentine's Day

It was Kinley's first out of the womb Valentine's Day! On Fri. Matt came home with a flower for her and some for me too! I was so proud that he thought of her! (and me) But I just never know what his crazy mind is thinking. He did good this year! He said, "When I was at the florist I realized that holidays are going to be very expensive for me here on out." LOL At least he is realizing this now! Tonight (Sat.) we decided to go out to eat. He asked if I wanted to get someone to watch Kinley but I said no way! The only problem with that is you have to go somewhere where it is very loud because we all know how loud Kinley is. I can just imagine us at a nice restaurant with our almost 10 month old as young college kids are there trying to enjoy their meals together. That could turn a romantic night into a nightmare real fast for people. So we decided on............Brown's Catfish! Now if that's not romantic I don't know what is! For those of you who don't know...Brown's is a very very good catfish/seafood buffet style restaurant. There are always tons of people and its very loud. It's the perfect place to take your kid! In fact there were tons of kids with their grandparents. I guess the parents actually went on a real Valentine date! Oh well, we'll get them next time. I just really have no desire to go places without Kinley. With all that said, remember there were LOTS of grandma's there. It kinda reminded me of the VFW or something! So, what do g-ma's do...try to make your kid laugh. This one woman was behind us in line (we waited for about an hour) and she just kept on trying her best to get Kinley to do, I don't know what! Then the moment finally came when she said "Can she come see me?" I know she was an innocent old lady but why in the world would I want my kid to go to a complete stranger that I met in a buffet line? But you have no choice really but to say "if she will come to you." And of course Kinely just goes to anyone so the lady held her while I watched very closely and at the first sign of a squeal I jumped in and got her back. She didn't try to hold her after that but I just can't figure out why ppl think we want you to hold our kids. Oh well it was all harmless but if I don't know you don't ask to hold my kid! If I know you, sure! :) For all of you without kids: JUST DON'T ASK TO HOLD A STRANGERS KID, you will understand this more when you have your own. (or maybe I'm the only one that thinks this way) All in all, we had a great night and fun time with each other and Kinley! Happy V-Day to everyone!

Pants on the ground...Booty in the air!

First read the title of this blogg! There are so good parts to this title. 1. My pants were NOT on the ground. Ok that's the only good part of the title! :) BTW-that guy was very funny on AI. Let's start from the beginning! Kinley as you all know from my FB has constant ear infections. Finally the pediatrician said its time for tubes! So off we go to the ENT Dr. After they called us back and the sweet nurse talked to us for a min she said, "The Dr. will be right in." We have all heard that before...you sit and wait at least 15 or more mins. before someone comes back in. I was in this mind frame when I decided to change Kinley. So I pulled her pants down (hints the title) and attempted to change her on this tiny chair. This room was not made for changing diapers in apparently, but being the good mother I am decided it would work for us! lol So Kinley's butt is shinning in the air and so is mine. Remember the chair is tiny so I have to lean way over to change her diaper...now this created my booty in the air (2nd part to title)! And what do you know, in walks Mr. ENT Dr. And he is saying "nice to meet you" I guess he was talking to my butt because that was the only thing he could see! I didn't know what to do...just I just stood there and didn't say anything! What a dork! Finally, I half turn and say "I'm so sorry, just a sec." as if Dr.'s run on my schedule! AWWWWW....I'm typing harder and harder as I remember this crazy story! I don't think things like this happened to me before Kinley came along! In the end, I got her butt covered up and pants on and turned around and talked to the nice Dr. and scheduled tubes!
Lesson learned: To quote the AI guy "Lookin like a fool with your pants on the ground" Its true!

90 to nothing in a few seconds...

Kinley went from getting very upset because she could not crawl to moving all over the house! Seriously, on a Mon. she could not move on Tues. she was everywhere! She has definitely learned how to get into everything and find anything! For example, Matt was supposed to be getting her back to sleep Sunday morning before church. Instead when I got out of the shower, he walked in the living room rubbing his eyes and said, "Kinley is not going to sleep, but I feel back asleep." HUMMMM....was that my goal? I think NOT! The story continues..."When did you put her in the playpen," says my lovely husband. I'm thinking to myself surely he is joking. NO! As he was snoozing she crawled off the bed (that is very high) into the playpen that is right beside the bed. When I went in to check on her after putting all this together she was just standing there. Lesson learned: You just can't trust a man! (Disclaimer: Matt is normally very good with her)

It finally happened....spit in my mouth

Matt decided to be sick last night, so tonight Kinley and I loaded up with Lattie and her girls and went to the basketball game. I didn't want to be home with the sick husband...but he must be better because he is going fishing in the morning. Poor baby! Anyways, Kinley was being very good and not to squirmy but enjoyed the game, as did I. As we were leaving, I held Kinley up over my head and did the "ahhh boo" thing you do. Remember I'm at a basketball game, in the stands, people all around. Much to my surprise they were not interested in the game but in what Kinley and I were doing. So, I continue the raising her in the air thing, when I saw what was coming in slow motion. She was smiling BIG and so was the spit coming out of her mouth. I tried to dodge it but, NO NOT this time. It fell straight into my mouth as I was saying "ahhhh boo." Thoughts were whirling in my head at this point, "do I pretend it didn't happen" "go puke in the bathroom" or what? As we all do, I looked to see if anyone had seen this tragic event...and YES plenty of people commented to me about the event. BUT, there was this one lady that really got a kick out of the entire situation...she laughed forever! She even apologized for laughing at me! I told myself she was not laughing at me, she was probably just remembering when this happened to her. I assume she had kids beacuse she was a vocal fan in the stands. I knew that one day I would catch that spit but I did not think in would happen in front of a lot of people. But, hey that's just the way it went down...no pun intended there. Lesson for tonight: Keep your mouth shut! That saying applies to many things! :)

It's the small things in life...

Wow, I have not posted in a long time! I must be honest here, I forgot that I even started this blog! (old age?) But, I have be reinspired to become a blogger! I have read several other peoples lately and decided to get back into the groove of this! Ok samll thing number 1: I never knew reading about someone else's life was so nice! I love to hear about old friends kids and families! Samll thing but it really does make me smile! Number 2: how nice it is when everyone else is in bed and I can literally just sit here, with out a scream (Kinley) or "hey can you..." ahhhhhh :) and the number 3 thing that just makes me smile is: getting everything done (does everything ever really get done?) fot the day and know that my lunch is packed, Kinley's bag is packed, and everything is laid out nicely for Matt in the morning (he takes Kinley to the sitter). Now that is a nice feeling! So tonightI have done all three small things that just make a girl smile! I can sleep hard tonight! zzzzzz

3 months Old!!!

I can't even remember how tiny she was 3 months ago! She doesn't seem too big right now! We visited a baby that weighted 6.13 yesterday, that's one ounce smaller than Kinley was! Elly looked so tiny and fragile! Kinley has discovered her fingers now...she LOVES to suck on the middle two when she is sleepy! I want to break that habit quick, but am unsure of how to do it. I pull her fingers out but she smarter than that, she finds them again immediately! When I read books to her now she actually sits and looks at the pages and pretends to listen. (sounds like my kids in my classroom...pretend to listen lol) She has been very vocal as well. Yesterday she talked and I talked back, she continued to get louder and louder! It was precious! I'm enjoying every minute with her because before long I will start college and she will have to be with the babysitter. I'm going to miss talking with her in the morning after she has fully woken up. (it takes awhile) I've got 5 or so weeks with her left and will take advantage of them! :)
